Old Salem Field Trip
We are pleased to announce the details for our field trip to Old Salem on Tuesday, May 5th! We will leave the school around 8 am in the morning and return between 5 and 6pm that evening. We are coordinating this trip through Mann Travel and will be using charter buses to transport the kids. They have created a great itinerary for getting us there and back. We will be taking the Self-Guided Historic Town Tour. The self-guided tour provides students the opportunity to interact with our costumed interpretive staff while touring the historic district. CMS policy requires us to have a 1:8 ratio for a walking field trip. We are hoping for at least a 1:5 ratio, which will require 5 chaperones for each classroom. We will be able to take 5 chaperones for each classroom on the buses with us to Old Salem. However, Mrs. Newsome has approved allowing additional parents to drive separately and/or carpool and meet us there. Her only requirement is that all children will ride the buses to and from Old Salem. Cost Students = $30 Adults Riding the Bus = $40 Adults Driving Separately = $20 (This is the amount of an adult ticket at Old Salem. You will simply purchase this upon arrival or you can also buy online at http://www.oldsalem.org/tour/school-groups/town-visit-tours/ We know that this will be a trip that everyone wants to participate in! We are excited that we won’t have to limit the number of parents that can come along! We will have a raffle drawing for the 5 chaperone slots on each bus. If your name is not pulled for the raffle, you are still welcome to attend but will need to drive separately. Please indicate below your chaperone interests. We will be collecting money on the first Fridays of the February, March and April. That will give you plenty of time to pay in installments if that’s easier. However, all monies must be paid in full by Friday, April 3rd. 1st Collection Day – Friday, February 6th 2nd Collection Day – Friday, March 6th Last Collection Day – Friday, April 3rd __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yes, my student , ______________________________________________________________ will be attending the trip to Old Salem. I understand that if their money isn’t paid in full by April 3rd, he/she will lose their spot on the bus. If you are interested in chaperoning for this fabulous field trip in May and haven't yet sent in your slip, please do so by tomorrow! We will be doing the drawing for spots on the bus around lunch time. Remember, we only have spots on the charter bus for 5 adults per class. We are so excited about how many of you have already showed interest in coming. Both Hoyle and Williams HR classes have between 6-8 adults signed up to go. This will give us a ratio of 1 adult per 3-4 students. Friday, February 6th (three days from now) is the 1st $ turn it date for Old Salem. We will only be receipting money for deposit on the designated days (2/6, 3/6, 4/3-all Fridays). You are welcome to pay the amount all up front or pay it in installments if that is easier. The cost is: $30 for students, $40 for parents who ride the bus (this includes the adult ticket price and bus expense), and parents who drive separate will incur the cost of gas and the $20 adult ticket price upon arrival. Please do not send in money on other days. We will not be making deposits other than the designated days. We will notify you all tomorrow afternoon which adults will be riding the bus after the drawing. We will also publish a list of names committed to driving separately in case you have friends you'd like to contact and then carpool with to save on some gas. James K Polk - TOMORROW!!! The temperature during the hours of our field trip tomorrow is 36 at 9am to 48 at 12pm. Please, please, please bundle up those kiddos. A lot of this field trip is touring the pioneer type log cabins which are outdoors. Even when you're inside of them, they are not insulated. Your children will get a quick education in how life was like in the winter during the pioneer times:) Last year they did reschedule us for cold temps - but the temps were in the teens and 20s so I don't expect that to happen this year. HATS, GLOVES, SCARVES, HEAVY COATS, LAYERS :) Thank you all for everything you do to support learning at McKee and in our classrooms! We're very lucky to have you all! |
